A cabinet workshop can spend RM 5,000 a month on Google Ads and end up quoting people who are still collecting Pinterest boards. The settings are usually fine. The money is simply landing on searches made eight months before anyone measures a wall.
This guide is for workshops in Klang Valley, Penang, Johor and Sabah that want their spend reaching homeowners with keys in hand. It covers account structure, the keywords worth paying for, the negative list, landing page rules, and four data sets on click costs, cost per job, the cabinet ad year and budget tiers.
ZenWeb runs Google Ads campaigns for cabinet makers and other renovation trades across 500+ Malaysian accounts. The same three leaks show up in nearly every audit.
Not sure how much of your cabinet spend reaches real buyers?

First, a primer on how the auction works.

Quick Answer: Because one click can carry a RM 15,000 contract. At that ticket size a RM 3 click is cheap, but only if the search came from someone holding keys. Cabinet demand splits between buyers and browsers, and the auction sells you both.
Most trades fight over a thin margin per job. A cabinet maker does not, and that changes what a click is worth:
Ads fill next month’s install slots while rankings build underneath — the slower half of that pairing sits in our SEO guide for cabinet makers.
Quick Answer: Ready buyers type a rate, a material or a township. Browsers type a style. “Kitchen cabinet price per feet” has a site measurement behind it; “modern kitchen cabinet design 2026” has a saved image.
A month of search terms from any cabinet account shows four shapes:
The first three deserve budget. The fourth deserves a negative keyword.
Quick Answer: One campaign per intent, not one per product. Separate rate, material, township and brand searches so each carries its own budget and landing page. A single “Kitchen Cabinet” campaign averages four different buyers into one bid.
The structure that survives an audit is small:
Five campaigns, not fifteen. A workshop on RM 3,000 a month cannot feed fifteen learning phases.
Quick Answer: Township first, then rate queries, then material queries. Leave “kitchen cabinet Malaysia” alone until those three pay — it is the priciest term on the topic and the least likely to sit inside your delivery radius.
Widen only when the tier above is profitable:
Sizing each group before you bid saves a month of tuition — the method is in our Google Ads keyword research walkthrough.
Quick Answer: Block design browsers, DIY buyers, job seekers and second-hand shoppers before raising a bid. On a RM 3,000 budget these four groups routinely eat a third of the spend, and none of them books a measurement.
Build the list on day one, not in month three:
Applying these account-wide is the fastest saving available — Google’s negative keyword lists push one edit to every campaign, and our guide to negative keywords covers match types.
Quick Answer: Put the rate, the material and the township in the headlines, then land the click on a page that repeats them in the first screen. The ad that repels the wrong click and the page that answers the right one are the same lever.
Cabinet ads all read alike: bespoke, quality, free 3D design. Nothing there separates a RM 200-per-foot workshop from a RM 600 one, so every shopper clicks all four listings. Four headlines that earn their place:
Then the page. Most cabinet ads land on a homepage carousel: she asked what plywood costs per foot, the page shows twelve photographs, she leaves. A paid cabinet page needs the rate above the fold, what it covers, three labelled jobs with their price band, the showroom address, and WhatsApp on the thumb line. Match the page to the ad group — an aluminium ad landing on a general price list loses the specificity it paid for.
Our landing page fixes for Google Ads rank those changes by impact.

Quick Answer: Not first, and not on a small budget. Performance Max chases the cheapest conversion it can find, and on a cabinet account that is almost always a design browser. Prove search first, then use it to extend reach.
The pitch is attractive: hand over the creative, let the system find buyers across Search, YouTube, Gmail and Discover. On cabinet accounts it finds people who love kitchens rather than people buying one. Two conditions before switching it on:
A workshop on RM 3,000 a month is better off owning township and rate searches outright — what automation does and does not decide sits in our guide to AI in Google Ads.
Quick Answer: Count three events, not one — the enquiry, the booked site measurement, and the signed contract with its value. Keywords that look identical on cost per enquiry can differ threefold on cost per signed job.
Most cabinet accounts stop at the WhatsApp click, and that number hides everything a workshop needs to know. The chain worth building:
That third step separates accounts that scale from ones that plateau — see offline lead conversion explained and our conversion tracking setup guide.
Quick Answer: Township searches cost the most per click at RM 2.60 to RM 4.10 and produce the cheapest enquiries at RM 36. Design searches cost half as much per click and RM 107 per enquiry. Cheap clicks are the most expensive thing in a cabinet account.
| Keyword group | Cost per click | Click to enquiry | Cost per enquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Township plus cabinet | RM 2.60 – 4.10 | 9.2% | RM 36 |
| Malay kabinet dapur terms | RM 1.30 – 2.20 | 5.8% | RM 30 |
| Price per foot queries | RM 2.10 – 3.40 | 6.4% | RM 43 |
| Material queries (plywood, aluminium) | RM 2.90 – 4.60 | 7.1% | RM 53 |
| Wardrobe and carpentry contractor | RM 3.20 – 5.30 | 5.2% | RM 82 |
| Design and inspiration | RM 1.10 – 1.90 | 1.4% | RM 107 |
| Nationwide head terms | RM 4.20 – 6.80 | 3.1% | RM 178 |

Malay terms are the anomaly worth acting on: cheapest clicks, second-cheapest enquiries, because few workshops bid on them. Wider benchmarks sit in our breakdown of Google Ads costs in Malaysia.
Quick Answer: Township search delivers signed jobs at RM 152, Performance Max at RM 683 and design campaigns at RM 2,105. The gap barely shows at the enquiry stage — it opens between enquiry and measurement, where most cabinet accounts stop counting.
| Campaign type | Cost per enquiry | Enquiry to measurement | Cost per signed job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brand search | RM 12 | 71% | RM 38 |
| Township search | RM 36 | 58% | RM 152 |
| Remarketing display | RM 24 | 44% | RM 168 |
| Rate and material search | RM 47 | 49% | RM 274 |
| Performance Max, no signed-job data | RM 62 | 34% | RM 683 |
| Design and inspiration search | RM 107 | 19% | RM 2,105 |

Brand search looks unbeatable because it harvests demand other campaigns created. Judge it as a closing cost, not a source of new buyers — the trap covered in telling whether your Google Ads are paying off.
Quick Answer: Paid cabinet demand peaks in October at an index of 141 and bottoms in February at 64. Clicks cost most in the peak and enquiries cost least, so cutting budget in October to save money is precisely backwards.
| Month | Demand index | Relative volume | Cost per click | Cost per enquiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 92 | RM 2.40 | RM 44 | |
| February | 64 | RM 1.90 | RM 58 | |
| March to April | 84 | RM 2.20 | RM 47 | |
| May to June | 98 | RM 2.60 | RM 42 | |
| July | 106 | RM 2.80 | RM 40 | |
| August | 114 | RM 3.00 | RM 39 | |
| September | 129 | RM 3.40 | RM 36 | |
| October | 141 | RM 3.70 | RM 35 | |
| November | 118 | RM 3.20 | RM 38 | |
| December | 77 | RM 2.30 | RM 52 |

September to November is families wanting the kitchen finished before Chinese New Year. February is the festive season itself, when nobody starts a renovation — that is the month to trim. Our guide to pausing Google Ads in slow months sets out how far to cut.
Quick Answer: RM 3,000 a month buys roughly 12 signed cabinet jobs at RM 250 each; RM 8,000 buys about 41 at RM 195. Cost per job falls as budget rises because larger accounts stay live all day instead of exhausting by mid-morning.
| Monthly media budget | Clicks | Enquiries | Site measurements | Signed jobs | Cost per signed job |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RM 1,500 | 480 | 26 | 13 | 5 | RM 300 |
| RM 3,000 | 990 | 57 | 30 | 12 | RM 250 |
| RM 5,000 | 1,640 | 101 | 55 | 23 | RM 217 |
| RM 8,000 | 2,580 | 168 | 94 | 41 | RM 195 |
| RM 12,000 | 3,750 | 251 | 143 | 64 | RM 188 |

Below RM 1,500 the account never leaves the learning phase. If that is your ceiling, the tactics in stretching a small Google Ads budget matter more than any bid strategy.
Quick Answer: Target the radius your lorry and installers actually cover, not the whole state. Every kilometre past your practical range raises cost without raising signed jobs, because the job needs a measurement, a delivery and three days on site.
Most cabinet accounts run the default: all of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. That buys clicks from people 70 kilometres away who will pick someone nearer. Three settings to check today:
Paid targeting and map presence should agree — the organic half is in our guide to ranking in the Google Maps top three.

Quick Answer: Put your registration, warranty length and deposit terms in the ad extensions and on the quote page. A homeowner about to pay a five-figure deposit is checking whether you exist on paper, and almost no cabinet ad answers that.
Renovation work sits under the Construction Industry Development Board’s remit, and contractor registration has been mandatory under Act 520 since 1995, graded G1 to G7 by contract value. CIDB has warned that working unregistered carries a fine of RM 10,000 to RM 100,000. If you hold a grade, say so.
A buyer paying a 50% deposit is not comparing craftsmanship. She is deciding which of four workshops will still exist in six weeks.
Sitelinks carry it well: company and registration details, warranty terms, deposit schedule, showroom map. Claim nothing you cannot show.
Quick Answer: Bidding on design terms, landing every click on the homepage, counting WhatsApp clicks as sales, and switching off in the peak. Each is a one-afternoon fix, and together they explain most cabinet accounts that “do not work”.
In rough order of what they cost per month:
These survive because nobody reads the search terms report — the wider list is in our roundup of Google Ads mistakes that waste money.
Quick Answer: Google Ads for cabinet makers is intent filtering, not budget size. Bid on townships and rates, block the browsers, publish a number on the landing page, and feed signed jobs back into the account.
The workshops winning this channel are rarely the ones spending most. They are the ones whose ads state a rate and a place, whose quote page answers the search in the first screen, and whose account knows which keyword produced last month’s RM 18,000 kitchen. Start with two townships and one rate campaign.
RM 3,000 to RM 5,000 a month suits a single showroom, producing roughly 12 to 23 signed jobs at RM 217 to RM 250 each in ZenWeb client tracking. Below RM 1,500 the account rarely leaves learning.
Far less well. Rate searches are the second-largest buying group in the trade, and a page with no number sends that click back to the results to try a workshop that published one.
Only after search campaigns are profitable and signed jobs are being imported. Without that data, Performance Max signs jobs at around RM 683 each against RM 152 for township search.
Yes, and it is usually the cheapest opening available. Malay kabinet dapur terms clear at RM 1.30 to RM 2.20 per click with enquiries near RM 30, because far fewer workshops bid against them.
