TikTok Business Center Access: Add Your Agency Safely
TL;DR: Keep your ad account, TikTok profile and pixel inside your own TikTok Business Center, then add your agency as a partner using its Business Center ID. Share only the assets it needs, at the lowest permission that does the job. Never hand over your TikTok password, and remove the partner the day the contract ends.

Your new agency asks for “access to TikTok”. Someone on your team is about to send the login and password over WhatsApp. Stop there. A shared password is the most common way Malaysian businesses lose control of their TikTok profile, ad account and tracking data when an agency or staff member leaves.

TikTok Business Center was built to solve exactly this. It lets you keep ownership while an agency works on your accounts through its own login. This guide shows how to set it up, which permissions to give, why access requests fail, how long each step takes and when to ask for help. If you are still choosing a partner, start with our guide to picking a TikTok ads agency in Malaysia. For Meta, the process is different and covered in giving an agency access to your Meta ads account.

The short video below walks through adding users and assigning access, step by step.

How to Add Users and Assign Access in TikTok Business Center

1. What Is TikTok Business Center and Who Should Own It?

Quick Answer: TikTok Business Center is TikTok’s central place to hold and share your business assets: ad accounts, TikTok profiles, pixels, catalogues and TikTok Shops. Your business should own its own Business Center, with at least two company admins. Your agency then works from its own Business Center as a partner, never as the owner.

TikTok’s Business Center partners guide describes a partner as another business you work with to build and manage campaigns, such as a creative or media agency. Here is how ownership should be split:

Who Should Own Each TikTok Asset
Recommended owner and agency access level for each TikTok asset.
AssetWho should own itWhat the agency usually needs
Business CenterYour company, 2+ internal adminsPartner status only
Ad accountYour Business CenterOperator (campaigns), not Admin
TikTok profileCompany email and +60 number“Show through ads only” for Spark Ads
PixelYour Business CenterShared use, not transfer
Catalogue / TikTok ShopYour Business Center / seller accountShared for ads only
BillingYour company card or RM invoiceNone, unless agreed in writing

The agency should never be your only admin. If an agency creates the ad account inside its own Business Center, your campaign history, audiences and pixel data sit with them. When the contract ends, that data may not come with you. The same principle applies across platforms; our guide to agency account ownership explains what to check before you sign.

Key takeaway: Your business owns the Business Center and every asset in it. The agency borrows access as a partner, which you can change or remove at any time.

2. Why Does TikTok Business Center Access Go Wrong?

Quick Answer: Most access problems come from the wrong person sending or approving the request. The ad account was created by an ex-staff member or old agency, the TikTok profile owner never approved the link, or the person inviting is a Standard member instead of an Admin. Wrong IDs and expired invitations make up most of the rest.

Here is how often each cause showed up when Malaysian businesses came to us with stuck agency access on TikTok:

The pixel trap is the costliest. If the agency created your pixel, your conversion history leaves with them, and tracking breaks the day access is cut. Our guide to fixing TikTok pixel event tracking covers that clean-up. Restricted profiles are a separate problem: a banned TikTok account or a suspended ads account must be resolved before sharing works normally.

Key takeaway: Before you send any invitation, confirm who created each asset and who is an Admin today. Most failed setups are ownership problems, not technical ones.

3. How to Add an Agency as a Partner in TikTok Business Center

Quick Answer: Log in to your TikTok Business Center as an Admin, click Partners in the left menu, then Add partner. Enter the agency’s Business Center ID, pick the accounts and assets to share, set permissions and confirm. Access starts once the agency accepts the invitation in its own Business Center.

These steps follow TikTok’s guide to adding partners to Business Center, checked in October 2026:

  1. Ask the agency for its Business Center ID. Not its ad account ID, and never its staff’s personal logins. A proper agency will send this in writing.
  2. Log in as an Admin. Only Admin members can add partners. If you see no Partners option, ask your existing Admin to upgrade your role.
  3. Go to Partners → Add partner. Enter the agency’s Business Center ID and click Next.
  4. Choose the assets to share. Tick only the ad account, pixel and catalogue the agency is managing for you.
  5. Set the lowest permission that works. Usually Operator on the ad account, so the agency can run campaigns without changing ownership or permissions.
  6. Confirm and ask the agency to accept. The shared assets appear in the agency’s Business Center after it accepts.

If the agency is requesting access instead, it will send a request for your ad account ID. TikTok’s ad account access request guide says an ad account admin must accept it in TikTok Ads Manager, under Notifications, on the Business Center tab. Check who is asking before you click Accept.

Key takeaway: You invite the agency, not the other way round. Starting from your own Business Center keeps ownership clear from day one.

4. Which Permissions Should You Give Your Agency?

Quick Answer: For most agencies, Operator access on the ad account is enough to build campaigns, and “Show through ads only” on your TikTok profile is enough for Spark Ads. Keep Admin and finance roles inside your company. Give Analyst access to anyone who only needs reports, such as a consultant or auditor.

TikTok’s roles and permissions guide separates member roles from asset permissions. This is the permission ladder we recommend:

Sharing your TikTok profile needs its own step. Per TikTok’s TikTok account sharing guide, go to Accounts → TikTok accounts, click View, open the Partners tab and choose Share with partner. TikTok notifies the profile owner in the app. If Spark Ads still fail after sharing, see fixing Spark Ads authorisation.

Billing stays with you. Operator access can include finance actions, so agree in writing who tops up and who receives the RM invoices. Card declines are covered in fixing TikTok ads payment failures in Malaysia.

Key takeaway: Give the lowest level that lets the agency do its job. Upgrading later takes a minute; undoing damage from too much access can take weeks.

5. How Long Does TikTok Business Center Access Take?

Quick Answer: When the right Admin sends the invitation, access usually works within minutes of the agency accepting. Delays come from people, not TikTok: waiting for an old agency or ex-staff to release an ad account can take days or weeks. If nobody can approve, TikTok support review times vary and are not guaranteed.

Here is a realistic timeline for each stage of an agency access setup:

3–14 days

2–4+ weeks

Plan around the slowest step. If you are switching agencies, request the release before the old contract ends, not after. A new campaign launch also needs time for ad review, so allow for TikTok ads stuck in review and possible ad rejections on top of access time.

If access works but campaigns sit idle, the cause is usually budget, bidding or audience size; see TikTok ads not spending.

Key takeaway: TikTok’s tools are fast. Budget a week of buffer for the human approvals, especially when an old agency or ex-staff member still holds an asset.

6. How Do You Keep TikTok Agency Access Safe Long Term?

Quick Answer: Review your partners and members every quarter, remove anyone who no longer works on the account, keep two internal admins on company emails, and turn on two-step verification. When an agency contract ends, delete the partner the same day. Removed partners lose access to every shared asset immediately.

Use this routine to keep agency access under control:

  • Remove partners on the last day. TikTok’s remove partner guide path is Partners → select the partner → Delete.
  • Never share passwords. Shared logins are how profiles get hacked; recovery is painful, as our guide on recovering a hacked Facebook Page shows for Meta.
  • Company-owned logins. Register the profile and Business Center to a company email and a company +60 number, not a staff member’s personal phone.
  • Quarterly access audit. List every member, partner and permission. Remove ex-staff and downgrade anyone with more access than they need.
  • Separate TikTok Shop access. Shop enforcement runs on its own system; see clearing TikTok Shop violation points if partners will run Shop ads.

The same discipline applies to every platform you own. Our guides to Google Search Console access, ad account, Page and pixel ownership and transferring a YouTube Brand Account follow the same rule: your business owns it, partners borrow it.

Key takeaway: Access is not set once and forgotten. A 15-minute quarterly review stops old agencies and ex-staff from keeping keys to your accounts.

7. When Should You Escalate to ZenWeb?

Quick Answer: Ask for help when an old agency or ex-staff member holds your ad account or pixel and will not release it, when nobody in the company is an Admin, or when your TikTok assets are spread across several Business Centers. We cannot override TikTok’s ownership rules, but we can plan a clean, compliant handover.

Escalate when you see any of these:

  • No internal admin. Everyone who set up TikTok has left the company.
  • Assets held hostage. A previous agency owns the ad account or pixel and is not responding.
  • Several Business Centers. Your profile, ad accounts and Shop sit in different places with different owners.
  • Restricted accounts. The profile or ad account is banned or suspended while you try to change access.

ZenWeb is a Google Partner agency that has worked with 500+ Malaysian businesses. Our digital marketing agency team sets up TikTok, Meta and Google so your business owns every asset and we work as a partner, never as the owner.

8. Conclusion

Safe TikTok Business Center access comes down to one rule: you own, the agency borrows. Create your own Business Center, keep two internal admins, add the agency as a partner with Operator access and “Show through ads only” on your profile, and remove it the day the work ends. 9. Frequently Asked Questions

1. Should I give my agency my TikTok password?

No. Add the agency as a partner in your TikTok Business Center instead. It works through its own login, you can see what it can access, and you can remove it at any time without changing passwords.

2. Who can add a partner in TikTok Business Center?

Only members with Admin access to the Business Center. Standard members can work on assets assigned to them but cannot add or manage partners.

3. What is the difference between a member and a partner?

A member is an individual person in your Business Center, such as a staff member. A partner is another business, such as an agency, that accesses your shared assets from its own Business Center.

4. Can the agency run Spark Ads without posting to my profile?

Yes. Share your TikTok account with the “Show through ads only” option. The agency can use your posts in ads without publishing new videos to your public profile.

5. What happens when I remove an agency partner?

The partner immediately loses access to every account and asset you shared. Your ad accounts, pixel data and profile stay in your Business Center.
