A LinkedIn Insight Tag not working usually looks like this: clicks come in, the sales team gets leads, yet Campaign Manager shows zero conversions or the tag sits on “Unverified”. Without conversion data, LinkedIn cannot optimise your bids, and at B2B click prices that blind spot gets expensive fast.
This guide is for the website tag only. If your missing leads come from LinkedIn’s own forms, see LinkedIn Lead Gen Form leads that will not sync instead. If you are fixing Facebook tracking, our guide to a Meta Pixel that is not firing covers that platform.
The video below walks through a correct Insight Tag and conversion setup, which is useful to compare against yours before you change anything.

Quick Answer: If the tag shows Active but conversions stay at zero, the conversion rule is the problem, not the tag. If the tag itself shows Unverified, the code is missing, edited or blocked. Match your symptom below first, because each one points to a different check and a different fix.
Start by reading two places in Campaign Manager: the tag status in Signals Manager, and the conversion status under Conversion Tracking. The combination tells you where to look.
| What you see | Most likely cause | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Tag status “Unverified” | Code missing, pasted with curly quotes, or blocked by a consent tool | Network tab on your home page |
| Tag Active, conversion “Unverified” | Conversion URL rule does not match the real thank-you page | Copy the live thank-you URL and compare |
| Conversion Active, but 0 in campaign reports | Conversion not added to the campaign, or leads did not come from ad clicks or views | Campaign settings, conversion section |
| Form leads arrive, no conversion recorded | Form shows a pop-up “thank you” with no new URL | Submit a test form and watch the address bar |
| LinkedIn shows far fewer leads than your CRM | Safari and iPhone cookie limits, short lookback window | Conversion settings and first-party cookie option |

If several platforms broke at the same time, the cause is probably on your website, not inside LinkedIn. Our guide to a Google tag that is not detected uses the same first checks.

Quick Answer: In the B2B accounts we audit, the top cause is a conversion URL rule that does not match the real thank-you page. Next come forms that never load a new page, conversions not attached to the campaign, and tags lost in a website rebuild. Consent banners and edited code make up most of the rest.
Here is how root causes break down in LinkedIn tracking cases we handle for Malaysian B2B companies:
| Root cause | Share of cases |
|---|---|
| Conversion URL rule does not match the thank-you page | 28% |
| Form or WhatsApp click with no page load | 21% |
| Conversion not added to the campaign | 16% |
| Tag removed in a site rebuild or theme change | 13% |
| Cookie consent tool blocking the tag | 11% |
| Edited code, curly quotes or wrong Partner ID | 11% |

URL rules break quietly. A conversion set to fire on /thank-you fails if the form actually redirects to /thank-you-page/ or adds a ?form=enquiry string. LinkedIn’s guide to comparing Campaign Manager conversions with third-party reports says conversion URLs must match exactly, including the www prefix.
WhatsApp is the Malaysian blind spot. Many local B2B sites push visitors to a WhatsApp button rather than a form. A click that opens WhatsApp loads no new page, so a page-load conversion never fires. You need an event-specific conversion on that button. The same gap appears on Google, covered in form submissions not showing as conversions.
Quick Answer: Open your page, right-click, choose Inspect, open the Network tab and filter for ads.linkedin.com. A request with status 302 means the tag fired. Then confirm the tag status in Signals Manager and the conversion status under Conversion Tracking. Use all three before deciding anything is broken.
LinkedIn’s own Insight Tag troubleshooting article recommends the Network tab check and a tag-checking browser extension. Here is what each check is good for:
| Check | What it shows | Speed | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser Network tab | Requests to ads.linkedin.com and their status code | Instant | Proving the code loads on a specific page |
| Tag-checker extension | Whether the tag fires and errors such as a missing Partner ID | Instant | Quick spot checks across many pages |
| Signals Manager tag status | Whether LinkedIn receives signals from your domain | Up to 24 hours | Confirming a new or reinstalled tag |
| Conversion Tracking status | When each conversion last received a signal | Up to 24 hours | The tag works but one conversion stays silent |

In Campaign Manager, the tag lives under Measure → Signals manager → Insight Tag, per LinkedIn’s guide to adding the Insight Tag. Conversion statuses sit under Measure → Conversion Tracking. Test in a clean window with ad blockers off; many “broken” tags are only blocked on the tester’s laptop.
Installed through Google Tag Manager? Check the tag fires in Preview mode first. If Preview will not open, see Tag Manager Preview not connecting.
Quick Answer: Reinstall the unedited base code on every page, then match each conversion rule to the real thank-you URL. Switch pop-up forms and WhatsApp clicks to event-specific conversions, attach the conversion to each campaign and enable first-party cookies. Finally, run a real test lead and wait for the status to update.
Work through these in order. Each one rules out a cause from the list above:
LinkedIn’s guide to troubleshooting Insight Tag conversions follows the same order: confirm the tag is Active first, then review the conversion’s URL or event setup. The principle is the same on Google; our guide to enhanced conversions not working shows the equivalent checks there.

Quick Answer: LinkedIn says a tag can take up to 24 hours after a visit to switch to Active. Active means a signal in the last three days; “No recent activity” means four to seven days; Inactive means more than seven. Low-traffic B2B sites often slip into those grey and red statuses even when nothing is broken.
LinkedIn’s guide to understanding conversion status in Campaign Manager defines each status. Here they are on one timeline, with what each usually means for a Malaysian B2B site:
| Status | Days since last signal | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| Active | 0–3 days | Working; leave it alone |
| No recent activity | 4–7 days | Often just a quiet week; run a test lead |
| Inactive | More than 7 days | Check the URL rule and recent site changes |
| Unverified | Never received | Tag or rule never matched; start at step 1 |

A B2B site with five enquiries a month can easily go a week without a conversion, so a test lead beats waiting. After a confirmed fix, expect Active within a day, then give campaigns one to two weeks of clean data before judging cost per lead.
Quick Answer: For B2B companies with long sales cycles, yes. The Insight Tag misses leads lost to blocked cookies and closed tabs, and it cannot see offline outcomes such as a qualified lead or signed deal. The Conversions API sends those from your server or CRM. Pass the same event ID through both so LinkedIn counts each lead once.
Here is how tracking setups compare on the B2B accounts we manage:
| Tracking setup | Leads recorded | Main gap |
|---|---|---|
| Insight Tag, third-party cookies only | 58% | Safari, iPhone and blocked cookies |
| Insight Tag with first-party cookies | 71% | Ad blockers, consent refusals |
| Tag + Conversions API, no event ID | Over 100% | Leads counted twice |
| Tag + Conversions API with shared event ID | 89% | Smallest gap of the four |

LinkedIn’s developer documentation on conversion deduplication explains that when the same event ID arrives from both the Insight Tag and the Conversions API, only one is counted. Without that ID, leads double. Meta works the same way, as our guide to Conversions API not working explains for Facebook.
Quick Answer: Treat tracking as part of every website change. Re-test the tag after each redesign, form change or new consent banner, run one test lead a month, and keep the tag and ad account under your company’s control. Most repeat failures come from unchecked site changes or lost account access.
A short routine prevents most repeat problems:
Running video ads on YouTube as well? The same access discipline applies: transferring a YouTube Brand Account, linking YouTube to Google Ads, fixing a disapproved YouTube video ad, recovering a hacked channel and appealing a terminated channel.
Quick Answer: Get help when the Network tab shows the tag firing but conversions stay Unverified after 48 hours, or LinkedIn and your CRM disagree badly and you cannot see why. The same applies when you need event-specific conversions on a custom form, or the Conversions API connected to your CRM.

A LinkedIn Insight Tag not working usually comes down to one mismatched URL rule, one form with no thank-you page or one conversion left off the campaign. Confirm with the Network tab and Campaign Manager, reinstall clean code, use event-specific conversions for pop-up forms and WhatsApp clicks, and turn on first-party cookies. Then give the status 24 hours and campaigns a week or two. For more guides on keeping your marketing measurable, visit the ZenWeb home page.
LinkedIn has not received a signal from your website yet. The code may be missing, edited, pasted with curly quotes or blocked by a cookie banner. Visit a tagged page, check the Network tab for a request to ads.linkedin.com, and allow up to 24 hours for the status to change.
The tag works, but the conversion rule does not. Usually the URL rule does not match the real thank-you page, the form shows a pop-up with no new URL, or the conversion was never added to the campaign. Fix the rule, then run a test lead.
LinkedIn says it can take up to 24 hours after a page visit for the tag status to switch to Active. A conversion counts as Active if it received a signal in the last three days, so low-traffic sites should run a test conversion rather than wait.
Create an event-specific conversion in Campaign Manager and fire it when someone clicks your WhatsApp button, either through the code LinkedIn provides or through Google Tag Manager. A page-load conversion cannot see WhatsApp clicks because no new page loads.
For most B2B companies it is worth adding. The Conversions API sends leads from your server or CRM, catching those the tag misses and adding offline stages such as qualified leads. Send the same event ID through both so each lead is counted once.
