How ZenWeb helps
We audit your account, split your reach by source to find the real trigger, then plan and post Reels-led content that rebuilds it.
A guide based on patterns across ZenWeb-managed Malaysian accounts. We'll check your real Insights before we recommend anything.
When your views fall off a cliff, it is tempting to blame a shadowban and wait. That wastes weeks. The Instagram reach checker asks what you saw and what changed, then points you to the cause with the most signs behind it. It runs on the patterns ZenWeb sees when we recover accounts for Malaysian businesses, explained in full in our guide to Instagram reach dropping suddenly.

1. How do you use the Instagram reach checker?
Quick Answer: Answer five questions about what dropped, how it showed up, your Account Status, where your reach fell and what you changed. The Instagram reach checker names the most likely cause, two more to rule out, a fix list and a realistic recovery time.
- Pick what dropped. Reach and follower drops have different top causes.
- Describe the shape. Everything falling at once points to a flag; one format sinking points to the algorithm.
- Check Account Status. Profile, menu, Settings and privacy, then Account Status shows restrictions and removed posts.
- Split your reach by source. In Insights, compare hashtag and Explore reach with follower reach.
- Tick what changed. Fewer Reels, a posting gap, new hashtags, a growth app or bought followers all leave a trail.
For a follower drop, add your count from 30 days ago and today to compare it with normal churn for your size.
2. Why did my Instagram reach drop?
Quick Answer: Usually because of how you post. The top three causes of the sudden reach drops we fix are too few Reels, weak early engagement and posting gaps. A policy flag explains only 12% of cases, so check your content before you assume a penalty.
| Cause of a sudden reach drop | Share of cases |
|---|---|
| Too few Reels or the wrong format mix | 34% |
| Weak hooks and low early engagement | 23% |
| Posting gaps and inconsistency | 16% |
| Policy flag or shadowban | 12% |
| Low-quality or bought followers | 9% |
| Technical (private account, broken links, blocked shares) | 6% |

Format is the biggest single lever. In our data, an original Reel reaches about 2.35 times as many people as a single image, because Reels reach non-followers. Weak early signals also stop Instagram testing a post on more people, which is why a reach drop often comes with falling Instagram engagement.
Key takeaway: Start with your format mix and early engagement. Those fixes clear most drops before a penalty is ever in play.

See our social media marketing service →3. Is it a shadowban or just the algorithm?
Quick Answer: A shadowban hits everything at once: hashtag and Explore reach collapse while your followers still see you. An algorithm shift is selective and hits one format or topic. If every reach source fell evenly, you most likely have a content problem, not a ban.
Instagram calls it content that is “not eligible to be recommended”. The checker weighs three signs, the same ones in our guide on how to check for an Instagram shadowban:
- A restriction in Account Status. This is the receipt. Fix or delete the flagged post first.
- Every format fell together. Reels, photos and Stories losing reach at once points to a flag.
- A lopsided reach split. On a typical flagged account, hashtag reach drops to about 12% of normal while follower reach holds near 88%.
4. Is my Instagram follower drop normal?
Quick Answer: A few unfollows a day is normal churn. Judge your net change over at least a fortnight against your account-size band. An account under 5,000 followers losing 2–4% a month is healthy; above 6% is a real drop worth fixing.
| Account size | Healthy monthly churn | Worrying above |
|---|---|---|
| Under 5,000 followers | 2–4% | 6% |
| 5,000–20,000 | 1.5–3% | 5% |
| 20,000–100,000 | 1–2.5% | 4% |
| 100,000+ | 1–2% | 3% |

A one-off dip of a few hundred is often a bot purge. Instagram removes fake accounts in waves, and your real followers are untouched. A steady slide usually means content that drifted off-topic, an uneven rhythm or too many promos. See our guides to Instagram followers dropping and followers not converting to customers.
5. How long does Instagram reach take to recover?
Quick Answer: Most accounts recover within two to four weeks of fixing the cause. A flag can start clearing within days once the trigger is gone. A follower drop usually stops within a week or two, and the count climbs by week three or four.
- Format or engagement problem: the first lift usually shows in week one, and reach is about double the low point by week four.
- Policy flag: pause for 48 to 72 hours after removing the trigger, then return with original posts.
- Follower drop: week one often looks flat. Hold the routine for 30 days.
Judge the weekly trend, not single posts. The best time to post in Malaysia guide helps you pick slots you can keep, and low Instagram Story views covers quiet Stories. If enquiries can’t wait, see what Instagram ads cost in Malaysia to bridge the gap.

See our digital marketing service →6. Frequently Asked Questions
1. How accurate is this Instagram reach checker?
It shows the most likely cause based on ZenWeb-managed Malaysian accounts from 2024 to 2026. It can't see your Insights, so treat the result as where to look first.
2. Can the checker tell if I am shadowbanned?
Only Account Status confirms a flag. The Instagram reach checker reads the signs around it, such as hashtag and Explore reach collapsing while follower reach holds.
3. Why did my reach drop when I changed nothing?
Instagram tests each post on a small group first. If they scroll past, the post stops travelling. Sharper hooks in the first three seconds and posts worth saving usually bring reach back.
4. Will posting more Reels fix my reach?
Usually, yes. Too few Reels is behind 34% of the reach drops we fix. Post two or three original Reels a week and keep the rhythm for two weeks.
