Every festive season, business owners ask us the same thing: “Why did my ads suddenly get so expensive?” The budget and the ads didn’t change, yet clicks cost more and fewer people see each post.
Festive season ad costs rise because more businesses bid for the same shoppers at the same time. At ZenWeb, a Google Partner agency with 500+ Malaysian clients, we plan for this inflation every year. This guide shows how much costs rise on each platform, which 2026–2027 dates hit hardest, and how to budget so higher prices don’t eat your margin.

Quick Answer: Based on ZenWeb estimates, Google search clicks cost about 10–35% more across a festive season, with sale-day spikes of up to 60% on retail keywords. Meta (Facebook and Instagram) impressions rise more, usually 20–60%. TikTok sits in between. The rise is steepest in the final days before a sale or festival and fades within a week after.
Google Search charges per click, so inflation shows up in cost per click (CPC). Meta and TikTok mostly price by reach, so it shows up in cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM). For normal-month benchmarks, start with our guide to Google Ads CPC by industry in Malaysia.
| Platform and metric | Typical festive rise (est.) | Sharpest window |
|---|---|---|
| Meta (Facebook, Instagram) CPM | +20–60% | 11.11, 12.12, last two weeks before Raya |
| TikTok CPM | +20–50% | Double-day sales, CNY week |
| Google Shopping and Performance Max CPC | +15–45% | 11.11 to Christmas |
| Google Search CPC | +10–35% (sale days up to +60%) | Sale days on retail and gift keywords |
| YouTube CPM | +10–30% | November to December |

Why Meta rises more than Google: festive demand grows the number of searches too, but social feeds don’t grow nearly as fast while every brand wants a slot in them. If you mainly run Meta Ads, our breakdown of Facebook ads cost during Raya goes deeper into one season.
Quick Answer: Ads cost more in festive season because platforms run auctions. When more advertisers chase the same shoppers with bigger budgets, the price of winning goes up. On Google, your actual CPC depends on the advertiser ranked just below you, so when that rival bids more, you pay more.
Google’s own definition of actual CPC explains that you pay only what is needed to clear the Ad Rank thresholds and beat the next ad. Meta’s help page on ad auctions says its auction weighs your bid, how likely people are to act, and ad quality. In festive weeks, four things push festive season ad costs up:
Peaks also last longer than one day. Google’s holiday optimisation tips note that in 2023 there were 8 days in December with higher spend than Cyber Monday. If your costs stay high after the season, our guide on why Google Ads CPC keeps rising and how to lower it covers the year-round fixes.
Quick Answer: The costliest windows are 11.11 (Wednesday 11 November 2026), 12.12 into Christmas 2026, and the last two to three weeks before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, expected on 10–11 March 2027. Chinese New Year (6–7 February 2027) runs straight into Ramadan, making January to March one long, expensive quarter.
Islamic dates depend on moon sighting and may shift by a day, so treat Ramadan and Raya dates below as expected until the official announcement.
| Season and date | Inflation window | Google Search CPC (est.) | Meta CPM (est.) | Pressure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11.11 (Wed 11 Nov 2026) | 1–12 Nov | +20–60% on sale days | +30–60% | Very high |
| Black Friday to Cyber Monday (27–30 Nov 2026) | 23–30 Nov | +15–40% | +30–50% | High |
| 12.12 and Christmas (12 and 25 Dec 2026) | 7–24 Dec | +15–40% | +30–60% | Very high |
| Chinese New Year (6–7 Feb 2027) | Early Jan to 5 Feb | +10–30% | +20–40% | High |
| Ramadan to Hari Raya (from about 8 Feb; Raya expected 10–11 Mar 2027) | Last 2–3 weeks of Ramadan | +10–30% | +30–50% | High |
| Mother’s Day and the mid-year cluster (9 May; 17 May–2 Jun 2027) | 1–9 May, then Raya Haji to Gawai | +5–20% | +10–25% | Medium |
| Merdeka, 9.9 and 10.10 (31 Aug, 9 Sep, 10 Oct 2027) | 2–3 days around each | +10–30% on sale days | +15–35% | Medium |
| Deepavali (Fri 29 Oct 2027) | Mid to late Oct | +5–20% | +15–30% | Medium |

In 2027, CNY and Ramadan begin two days apart, so there is no quiet gap between them; see our Chinese New Year 2027 Google Ads CPC and budget guide. The Ramadan peak arrives late, in the Raya shopping weeks. Our guide to Ramadan ad budgets for search versus social covers that split.
Quick Answer: Start eight to ten weeks before the peak. Building audiences, testing creative and fixing landing pages is cheapest before costs rise. By peak week, you should only be scaling proven ads and retargeting warm audiences, not testing new ideas at the most expensive time of year.
| When | What to do | Why it saves money |
|---|---|---|
| 8–10 weeks before | Pull last year’s weekly CPC and CPM; set budget and buffer; brief your team | Avoids panic top-ups at peak prices |
| 6 weeks before | Produce creative; refresh landing pages and SEO content | Fresh ads win cheaper auctions |
| 4 weeks before | Run warm-up campaigns to build viewer and visitor audiences | Reach is cheaper now |
| 2 weeks before | Raise budgets in steps; check tracking | Keeps automated bidding stable |
| Peak week | Focus on retargeting and buyer-intent keywords | Warm audiences cost less per sale |
| After the peak | Cut budgets within days; review results | No peak prices for post-festival traffic |
For CNY 2027, the eight-week mark falls in early December 2026; for Raya, mid-January 2027. Our guide to festive campaign lead time and when to brief your agency gives the week counts for every festival. For 11.11, follow the four-week 11.11 ad warm-up plan.
Quick Answer: No. On Google Search, festive buyers often convert at a higher rate, so cost per sale can hold steady or even fall while CPC rises. On Meta, cold prospecting usually costs more per sale, because better response doesn’t fully offset higher CPMs. Judge festive season ad costs on cost per sale, not cost per click.
This modelled scenario shows why the same inflation hits each platform differently.
| Metric | Normal week | Peak week | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Search, buyer-intent keywords | |||
| Cost per click | RM1.50 | RM1.95 | +30% |
| Conversion rate | 3.0% | 4.2% | +40% |
| Cost per sale | RM50.00 | RM46.40 | −7% |
| Meta, cold prospecting | |||
| CPM | RM15.00 | RM22.00 | +47% |
| Click-through rate | 1.2% | 1.3% | +8% |
| Conversion rate | 2.0% | 2.4% | +20% |
| Cost per sale | RM62.50 | RM70.40 | +13% |

Buyer-intent search can absorb inflation; cold social reach struggles to. That is why we move peak-week money towards search and retargeting, where warm audiences respond far better. To track this across seasons, use our method for measuring festive campaign ROI.

Quick Answer: Add 10–20% to each peak season’s media budget as an inflation buffer. Fully matching a 30% cost rise is rarely worth it, because the extra reach it buys is usually the least profitable. Use the buffer to protect your best keywords and warm audiences, and let efficiency tactics close the rest of the gap.
The ladder compares full protection at a 30% average rise with the buffer we usually recommend.
| Normal monthly spend | To keep same reach (+30%) | Suggested buffer | Best use of the money |
|---|---|---|---|
| RM3,000 | RM3,900 | +10% (RM300) | Buyer-intent keywords and retargeting only |
| RM6,000 | RM7,800 | +15% (RM900) | Add a four-week warm-up before the peak |
| RM10,000 | RM13,000 | +15–20% (RM1,500–2,000) | Split pre-heat and peak; test two offers |
| RM20,000 | RM26,000 | +20% (RM4,000) | Full buffer plus seasonality adjustment on 1–7 day peaks |

Work out your own number in four steps:
For the full-year split, use our festive ad budget planner for 2027. For a normal-month baseline, see the monthly Google Ads budget guide for SMEs; for one sale week, how much extra to budget for 11.11 Google Ads. On a tight budget? Read festive marketing on a small budget.
Quick Answer: You lower festive season ad costs by competing where the auction is weakest: buyer-intent searches, warm audiences and fresh creative. Owned channels help too. SEO, WhatsApp and email cost nothing extra per click in peak weeks, so they soak up demand that paid ads would charge more for.
Ad fatigue arrives faster when budgets are high, and tired ads pay more per impression. Our festive creative pipeline guide shows how many ads to prepare per season.
Quick Answer: Generic festive ads cost more because people scroll past them, and platforms charge more to deliver ads with weak engagement. Respectful, specific creative that reflects how each community actually celebrates earns better engagement and cheaper delivery. In 2027, keep CNY and Ramadan creative clearly separate.
Timing matters too: spending often follows paydays and bonuses, not just the festival date. Our guide to timing ads to the year-end bonus season shows when Malaysians actually have money to spend.
Quick Answer: Compare each festive campaign with a normal-month baseline on cost per sale, return on ad spend and profit after discounts. Check impression share lost to budget, and whether peak-week buyers came back later. If cost per sale rose less than your margin allows, the inflation was worth paying.
Name campaigns by season and year, such as cny2027, so next year’s comparison is easy. If no one on your team has time for this review, weigh up whether an agency or in-house team should run your festive campaigns.
Quick Answer: Run through this list eight to ten weeks before each peak. Each item either lowers your festive season ad costs or makes sure the higher price still buys profitable sales.

Festive season ad costs will rise again this November, through CNY and into Raya 2027. You can’t stop that, but you control when you start, how much buffer you hold and where the money goes. Start early, keep a 10–20% buffer, put peak money into search and warm audiences, and judge every season on cost per sale. Then inflation becomes a planned line in your budget, not a nasty surprise.
Based on ZenWeb estimates, Google search clicks cost about 10–35% more across a festive season, with sale-day spikes up to 60%. Meta impressions typically rise 20–60%, with the sharpest jumps around 11.11, 12.12 and the last weeks before Hari Raya.
Meta (Facebook and Instagram) usually rises most, because feed space is limited while advertiser demand jumps. Google Search rises less, since festive shoppers also search more.
Usually not. Pausing hands ready-to-buy shoppers to competitors. Narrow spend to buyer-intent keywords and warm audiences, and pause only campaigns whose cost per sale exceeds your margin.
They can. A seasonality adjustment tells Smart Bidding to expect a higher conversion rate, so it bids more. Google recommends them for short events of 1–7 days, so use them only for genuine sale days.
