A shop in Kajang runs one boosted post: a photo of the shopfront with “50% OFF TINTED” in yellow. It reaches 40,000 people in a month and books four cars. Two streets away, a smaller shop posts a fifteen-second clip of a Myvi driving out with one side tinted and one side bare, and fills a Saturday.
Same trade, same town, same budget. One ad announced a discount. The other showed the thing people actually buy.
ZenWeb runs Meta Ads for automotive and workshop trades inside a Malaysian client base of 500+ accounts. Tinting is one of the few trades where paid social outperforms search on volume, because the product is visual, the price is impulse-sized, and nobody is in a hurry.
Not sure what a tint enquiry should cost you?

Before the tinting specifics, the video below covers how an auto trade builds Facebook and Instagram campaigns that produce booked jobs rather than comments.

Quick Answer: Nobody wakes up needing tint. They decide after a hot drive, a new car, or a clip of somebody else’s car looking better than theirs. Search bills you for the small group already convinced; Meta Ads for tinting shops reaches the far larger group who were never going to type anything.
Tint is a want, not a repair, and that single fact decides the channel. Our Google Ads guide for tinting shops covers the search side, where you buy a car already leaving the house to get tinted.
Paid social sits earlier and wider:
If you can only afford one channel and your bays sit half empty, Meta fills them faster, because created demand is bigger than demand you wait for. Our comparison of where Malaysian SMEs should spend first lays out the trade-off.
Quick Answer: New-car full-car packages produce the cheapest useful enquiries at about RM 21 and book 38% of the time. Home and office film costs roughly RM 44 an enquiry but carries an average job value near RM 2,900, which is almost four times a typical car.
| Job type | Share of spend | Cost per enquiry | Books a job | Avg job value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New-car full-car tint package | 31% | RM 21 | 38% | RM 780 |
| Ceramic or IR upgrade on an owned car | 18% | RM 33 | 29% | RM 1,450 |
| Home and office window film | 16% | RM 44 | 22% | RM 2,900 |
| Strip old film and retint | 14% | RM 26 | 34% | RM 620 |
| Windscreen-only and motorcycle screen | 11% | RM 14 | 45% | RM 240 |
| Dealer, fleet and showroom contracts | 10% | RM 118 | 19% | RM 14,500 / year |

Blended across that mix, a tint enquiry costs about RM 30. Read the table as an allocation, not a target. Windscreen work is cheap traffic that teaches the pixel quickly but never fills a second bay, while dealer contracts are slow and expensive to win, then run for a year without further ad spend.
Quick Answer: Malaysian law sets a floor of 70% light through the front windscreen and 50% through the front side windows. Advertising film below those levels, or promising it will pass a roadblock, is promoting something illegal in your own market — and Meta removes ads reported as unlawful.
The rear side windows and rear windscreen have no darkness limit, which is why so many shops advertise “100% dark”. Say it about the back and you are fine. Say it about the whole car and you have advertised an offence carrying a fine of up to RM 2,000 for a first offence, as JPJ has publicly reminded motorists.
Meta is blunt about it too: under its policy on locally illegal content, products or services, ads must not be unlawful and may be removed when reported. In this trade, a rival reporting your ad is not hypothetical.
Three copy swaps keep the account clean and still sell:
If ads are already being knocked back, fix the copy before appealing again. Repeat violations, not single ads, are what disable accounts — our guide on fixing rejected Facebook ads covers the route back.
Quick Answer: A new car gets tinted in its first three weeks or it usually keeps whatever the dealer threw in. Malaysians bought 820,752 new vehicles in 2025, so roughly 68,000 cars a month enter that window — and almost none of them are searching for you.
The Malaysian Automotive Association recorded 820,752 vehicles sold in 2025, including a record 90,716 units in December alone. Every one of those owners had a film decision to make within a month.
You cannot buy “just bought a car” as an interest. You get close with three overlapping signals:
The offer matters as much as the audience. “Free windscreen strip with any full-car package” beats a percentage discount here, because the owner is already comparing your film against the dealer’s.
Quick Answer: A fifteen-second split-screen drive-by, half the car tinted and half bare, books a car for about RM 52. A static discount poster costs roughly RM 310 per booked car — six times worse on the same budget, in the same townships.
| Creative format | Share of impressions | Cost per enquiry | Cost per booked car |
|---|---|---|---|
| Split-screen before-and-after drive-by (15–20s) | 27% | RM 18 | RM 52 |
| Heat-lamp or IR meter demo clip | 22% | RM 20 | RM 58 |
| Bay time-lapse, film cut to fitted | 17% | RM 24 | RM 71 |
| Film-tier and price carousel | 15% | RM 29 | RM 66 |
| Customer collecting the car, to camera | 12% | RM 27 | RM 83 |
| Static discount poster | 7% | RM 61 | RM 310 |

Whatever proves the difference wins. Half a car tinted proves the look; a heat lamp and a cheap IR meter prove the comfort, and that second clip sells ceramic without anyone explaining nanometres.
Shoot on a phone, in your own bay. Two new clips a month keeps you ahead of fatigue in a tight radius — our note on spotting creative fatigue covers the warning signs, and our guide to ad creative that converts covers framing and captions.
Quick Answer: Building film enquiries cost about RM 44 against RM 21 for a car, and convert less often. They are still worth chasing because the average job runs near RM 2,900, the work is quoted from photos, and no bay time is used at all.
Most shops already have the film, the squeegees and the skill. What they lack is a campaign that speaks to a homeowner instead of a driver.
Quote from photos and a rough window count, then confirm on site. Asking for a floor plan kills the enquiry; asking for two photos does not.

Quick Answer: The car has to come to you and sit for two to four hours, so the real catchment is a drive-time ring, not a circle. In Klang Valley, 25 minutes is the practical edge for a car job and about 45 minutes for a home-film quote.
A 20km circle around a Cheras shop includes places that take an hour in traffic and excludes a neighbourhood twelve minutes down the highway. Meta draws circles; your customer experiences minutes.
Build three rings and price them differently:
Waiting comfort belongs in the outer-ring creative. Air-conditioning and WiFi answer the exact objection that stops a longer drive.
Quick Answer: Tint prices in Malaysia run from a few hundred ringgit for basic dyed film to several thousand for top ceramic, and buyers know it. An ad that names three tiers with a from-price gets fewer chats and more bookings than one promising a quote by WhatsApp.
“PM for price” is the default in this trade and it is expensive. Every price-shopper who opens a chat costs the same as a buyer.
Name the tiers the way a customer decides:
Publishing bands costs you no negotiating room. It moves the conversation from “how much” to “which tier”, and that one ends in a booked slot. The SEO guide for tinting shops covers the price and film pages these ads should land on.
Quick Answer: Tint demand peaks in January and February at an index of 112 against an annual average of 100, when December’s delivered cars arrive for film and enquiries are cheapest at about RM 27. The quiet stretch is July and August, when the same enquiry costs around RM 35.
| Period | Tint enquiry index | New-car delivery index | Blended cost per enquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| January–February | 112 | 118 | RM 27 |
| March–April | 108 | 104 | RM 29 |
| May–June | 96 | 92 | RM 33 |
| July–August | 88 | 89 | RM 35 |
| September–October | 91 | 97 | RM 32 |
| November–December | 105 | 120 | RM 28 |

The two curves sit about a month apart, and that offset is the plan. Deliveries spike in the last weeks of the year as dealers push targets; the tint jobs land in January. Load your delivery-week creative in November, not in January when every shop is already bidding.
Quick Answer: Tint is decided slowly, so the video-viewer audience is the most valuable asset a tinting shop owns. Retargeting people who watched at least half a demo clip books cars at roughly a third of the cost of reaching cold audiences.
Most shops never build the pool. They run a clip, collect views, then run a different clip next month to the same cold radius.
Three audiences are worth keeping warm:
Our explainer on how retargeting actually works covers audience sizes. Install tracking first: without proper events, Meta optimises toward cheap chats instead of booked cars, and our Meta Pixel and Conversions API setup guide walks through it.
Cannot tell which chats became cars?
Most tinting accounts we take over cannot connect a single booked slot to a campaign. See how to track WhatsApp enquiries properly →
Quick Answer: About RM 450 a month is the working floor for a single-bay shop, producing roughly 17 enquiries and six booked cars at around RM 75 each. Cost per booked car rises as you scale, because the extra budget buys upgrades and building film rather than basic packages.
| Shop size | Monthly budget | Enquiries | Cost per enquiry | Booked cars | Cost per booked car |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single bay, owner installs | RM 450 | 17 | RM 26 | 6 | RM 75 |
| Two bays, installer plus helper | RM 1,200 | 42 | RM 29 | 15 | RM 80 |
| Multi-bay shop with home-film line | RM 3,000 | 91 | RM 33 | 30 | RM 100 |
| Small chain, three or more outlets | RM 7,500 | 195 | RM 38 | 61 | RM 123 |

A rising cost per booked car looks like a problem and usually is not. The RM 450 tier books windscreens and basic packages; the RM 7,500 tier books ceramic upgrades and building film worth several times more. Judge each tier on revenue per job. Our note on the smallest Facebook Ads budget that still works explains why dropping below the floor stalls learning entirely, and our cost per lead benchmarks by industry put these numbers in wider context.
Quick Answer: Four repeat in almost every tinting account we take over. Advertising illegal darkness. Boosting a discount poster instead of a demo clip. One wide radius covering three towns. And counting WhatsApp chats as leads when nobody records which chats became cars.
Three more turn up nearly as often:
Quick Answer: Meta Ads for tinting shops comes down to four moves: show the difference instead of announcing a discount, stay inside the legal VLT limits in your copy, set the radius by drive time, and count booked cars rather than chats opened.
The shops winning on paid social are not the ones with the biggest promotion. They are the ones whose installer films a half-tinted car once a week, whose ad names three film tiers with a from-price, and whose booking sheet can say what a car cost to win last month. Start with the delivery-week campaign, build the video-viewer audience through the quiet months, then open the home-film line once the car side pays for itself.
About RM 450 a month is the practical floor for a single-bay shop, producing roughly 17 enquiries and six booked cars at around RM 75 each in ZenWeb client tracking. A multi-bay shop running a home-film line does better work at about RM 3,000 a month, near RM 100 per booked car, because the jobs are worth far more.
Only for the rear side windows and rear windscreen, which carry no darkness limit. The front windscreen must pass at least 70% of light and the front side windows at least 50%. Advertising darker front film promotes something unlawful in your market, and Meta may remove ads reported as unlawful.
A split-screen before-and-after drive-by of 15 to 20 seconds. It takes 27% of impressions in accounts we manage, produces enquiries at about RM 18 and books a car for around RM 52. Static discount posters cost roughly RM 310 per booked car, the worst format in the trade.
Google captures the smaller group who already decided to tint this week. Meta reaches the far larger group still deciding, which is why it wins on volume and on ceramic upgrades. Most shops start on Meta and add search once bookings are steady.
