A tow truck driver in Rawang pays RM 6.20 for a click from a stranded driver on the North–South Expressway. That driver rings 1-800-88-0000 instead, and gets towed to the next R&R for nothing.
This guide covers what a towing click really costs here, and the highway traffic you should never buy. It also covers how accident work differs from breakdown work, plus four data sets on click cost, wasted spend, ad copy and the towing calendar.
ZenWeb is a Google Partner running Google Ads campaigns for 500+ Malaysian businesses. Recovery accounts convert quickly and waste faster than almost any trade we manage.

Start with the three different emergencies hiding behind one search box.

Quick Answer: A breakdown, an accident and a car being shipped interstate all type roughly the same words into Google, but they pay differently, decide differently and arrive at different hours. One campaign covering all three hands the budget to whichever is cheapest to click, not whichever is worth doing.
Separate them before you separate anything else in the account:
The first is a map and speed game. The third is a page-and-quote game, which is why it belongs to our towing SEO guide as much as to paid search. Paid search sits in the middle of all three, and the full channel picture is in our digital marketing guide for towing services.
Quick Answer: Between RM 1.90 and RM 9.40 a click. Malay township terms such as “tunda kereta Rawang” book a job for around RM 27, while English emergency terms cost RM 6.20 a click and still book at RM 50. Heavy recovery is the dearest click and the largest invoice.
| Keyword cluster | Avg CPC | Click to call | Call to booked | Cost per booked job |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Malay trade plus township (“tunda kereta Rawang”) | RM 2.60 | 14.2% | 68% | RM 27 |
| English emergency (“tow truck near me”) | RM 6.20 | 17.4% | 71% | RM 50 |
| Accident recovery (“kereta accident tow”) | RM 4.90 | 11.8% | 63% | RM 66 |
| Price checks (“harga tunda kereta”) | RM 1.90 | 6.1% | 38% | RM 82 |
| Interstate car transport (“hantar kereta ke JB”) | RM 5.80 | 8.7% | 44% | RM 152 |
| Heavy vehicle recovery (“lorry recovery service”) | RM 9.40 | 5.6% | 47% | RM 358 |

The price checkers are the cheapest traffic in the table and the second-worst cost per job, because “berapa” is a question, not an emergency. Cross-trade comparisons sit in our breakdown of Google Ads CPC by industry in Malaysia.
Quick Answer: On tolled expressways the concessionaire tows the vehicle itself, free, to the nearest rest area. Bidding on highway breakdown terms buys clicks from drivers who are about to dial a toll-free number instead of yours. It is the single largest avoidable leak in Malaysian towing accounts.
PLUS says its PLUSRonda team has run 24/7 expressway assistance since 1990. The service covers vehicle repairs and towing for Class 1 vehicles, reachable on the toll-free PLUSLine or the emergency telephones placed every two kilometres. A stranded driver does not need Google for that. There is usually a signboard in front of them.
So the highway is not your market. In Google Ads for towing services, the words that describe it belong in the negative list, not the keyword list:
Quick Answer: Around half of an unmanaged towing budget reaches somebody who wants a tow they will pay for. The rest goes to free-assistance seekers, people shopping for a tow truck to buy, and job hunters looking for driving work — and those groups book almost nothing.
| Search-term type | Share of spend | Booked jobs per 100 clicks |
|---|---|---|
| Paid service intent (breakdown, accident, transport) | 49% | 10.4 |
| Free highway and insurance assistance seekers | 16% | 0.3 |
| Buying or renting a truck (“harga lori tunda”) | 11% | 0.1 |
| Job and licence seekers (“kerja pemandu lori tunda”) | 9% | 0.0 |
| Outside the response radius | 9% | 1.2 |
| Wrong job entirely (workshop, claims, car rental) | 6% | 0.5 |

Run Google Ads for towing services on phrase and exact match until the conversion data is trustworthy, for the reasons set out in our guide to keyword match types. Block these from the first day:
Review the search terms weekly for the first two months using the routine in our walkthrough on building a negative keyword list. If the calls arriving feel like time-wasters rather than customers, our fix for spam leads from Google Ads covers the rest.
Quick Answer: Most accident tows are dispatched by an insurer’s panel line or a bodyshop, not chosen by the driver. Paid search still matters, but the reader you are buying is often the workshop owner or fleet supervisor looking for a standing partner — not the person at the roadside.
That changes what the ad should say. A driver wants speed. A workshop wants a truck that turns up when promised, invoices cleanly and does not damage the bumper on loading.
Two campaigns, two audiences:
The second one compounds. One bodyshop relationship is worth more than a month of emergency clicks, and it is usually won through steady local visibility rather than a single ad. Our guide to local SEO in Malaysia covers that groundwork.
Quick Answer: Naming the township and an arrival window beats everything, at RM 42 a booked job against RM 100 for a generic “24 hours, call now” ad. A flat rate for the first ten kilometres and a named truck type both cut the cost per job by roughly half.
| Lead message in the ad | CTR | Click to call | Call to booked | Cost per booked job |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| “24 Hours Towing Service, Call Now” | 4.3% | 9.6% | 49% | RM 100 |
| Township and arrival window named | 5.6% | 15.8% | 71% | RM 42 |
| Flat rate for the first 10 km stated | 3.9% | 13.2% | 74% | RM 48 |
| Insurance panel and permit shown | 4.0% | 12.4% | 78% | RM 49 |
| Truck type named (flatbed, wheel-lift, EV-safe) | 3.4% | 10.9% | 81% | RM 53 |

Read the last two rows carefully. Naming the truck type has the worst click-through rate in the table and the best booking rate, because a driver with a stranded electric car stops scrolling and everybody else keeps going. That is the whole discipline behind Google Ads for towing services: buy fewer clicks that convert harder. Our notes on writing Google Ads copy that converts apply the same logic across trades.

Quick Answer: Towing is the rare trade where the customer cannot guess the price and you cannot quote it without asking where they are. Publishing a call-out fee plus a per-kilometre rate turns a haggling call into a booking call, and it is what the landing page must answer first.
Three things belong above the fold on the page the ad points to:
Build the ad as a responsive search ad carrying call assets, not a call-only ad. Google removed the option to create new call-only ads in February 2026, and existing ones stop serving in February 2027. Any towing account built entirely on them now has a switch-off date. The page half of that move sits in our guide to Google Ads landing pages.
Quick Answer: Towing demand has three peaks a year — the two festive balik kampung seasons and the north-east monsoon in November and December. Clicks cost 40% more in those months and still produce the cheapest jobs of the year, because intent is at its highest.
| Month | Demand index | Avg CPC | Cost per booked job |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 98 | RM 4.20 | RM 53 |
| February (Chinese New Year travel) | 116 | RM 5.70 | RM 45 |
| March (Raya balik kampung) | 124 | RM 6.10 | RM 43 |
| April | 101 | RM 4.50 | RM 50 |
| May | 94 | RM 4.10 | RM 55 |
| June (school holidays) | 105 | RM 4.70 | RM 51 |
| July | 92 | RM 4.00 | RM 56 |
| August | 90 | RM 3.90 | RM 57 |
| September | 96 | RM 4.20 | RM 54 |
| October | 103 | RM 4.60 | RM 51 |
| November (monsoon and floods) | 119 | RM 5.40 | RM 47 |
| December (year-end travel, monsoon) | 122 | RM 5.80 | RM 46 |
Source: ZenWeb client tracking, Malaysian towing accounts, 2024-2026. Demand index is search volume with the annual average set at 100. Festive months shift with the lunar and Islamic calendars — the shape holds, the month moves.
Most operators cut spend when clicks get expensive, which means they go quiet in exactly the weeks the country is on the road. Do the opposite: lift the daily cap for the festive fortnight and the monsoon weeks, then trim in July and August. Hour-of-day matters just as much, and the common mistakes there are in our guide to ad schedules that waste budget.
Quick Answer: A tow truck is a commercial goods vehicle, so the credible trust signals are an APAD vehicle permit, a valid goods driving licence and cover that pays if a customer’s car is damaged in transit. Those three lines belong in the ad assets, not buried on an About page.
APAD’s Commercial Licensing Division handles licensing for goods vehicles across Peninsular Malaysia under the Land Public Transport Act 2010, issuing permits through the iSPKP system. A customer will not ask to see it, but “APAD-permitted trucks, fully insured in transit” as a callout asset does the same work a licence badge does in other trades.
Tax draws a second line through the account. Logistics services sit in the 6% service tax band under the Royal Malaysian Customs regime. Once your business is registered, the quote in the ad and the quote on the phone both have to be clearly tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive, so confirm your own scope with a tax agent rather than a forum. Tax on the ad spend itself is separate, and sits in our guide to Google Ads billing and SST in Malaysia.
Anyone can weld a ramp onto a lorry. The permit and the transit cover are what separate you from that, so say them out loud.
Quick Answer: Count calls over 45 seconds, WhatsApp taps tagged by page, and jobs actually completed. Without that third number, smart bidding learns to buy whoever rings most often — in towing, that is the price checker who never books.
There is no checkout in this trade. The job ends with a car on a forecourt and a transfer or a cash payment, so the minimum workable setup is:
The mechanics are in our Google Ads conversion tracking setup guide. Chat-specific gaps are covered in measuring WhatsApp enquiries properly, and the fix when calls stop appearing at all is in Google Ads call tracking not working.
Quick Answer: Roughly RM 900 a month keeps one truck busy across two or three townships, which works out at about 20 booked jobs once the negatives are in place. Add budget by adding coverage or a second truck, not by bidding harder in the same small area.
Spend on Google Ads for towing services follows fleet capacity, because the real ceiling is how many jobs you can reach before the customer gives up waiting. One truck covering Kajang and Semenyih beats one truck claiming the whole Klang Valley on the same money. A second truck justifies the next budget step, not the other way round. Budget floors, and what happens below them, are in our guide to the Google Ads minimum budget in Malaysia.
Quick Answer: Bidding on expressway terms, hiding the call-out fee, running one campaign for every job type, cutting spend during festive peaks, and letting Performance Max spend a small budget unsupervised.
In rough order of what they cost:
The cross-industry version of this list is in our roundup of Google Ads mistakes that waste budget.
Quick Answer: Bid on townships and Malay trade terms, negative out the expressway and the truck shoppers, publish your call-out fee, split accident and transport work into their own campaigns, and spend more in the festive and monsoon months.
Google Ads for towing services is unusual because a large slice of the demand it looks like you can buy has already been handed to somebody else for free. Once you accept that, the account gets simpler and cheaper: a tight radius around the yard, four or five job types priced openly, and a phone that gets answered. Start with two townships and your three most common jobs, hold it through one full festive season, and let the completed jobs teach the bidding what a real customer looks like.
Clicks run from RM 1.90 on price searches to RM 9.40 on heavy recovery terms. A booked job costs about RM 27 from Malay township keywords and RM 50 from English emergency keywords, on a starting budget of roughly RM 900 a month for one truck.
Generally no. On tolled expressways the concessionaire provides its own 24/7 assistance and towing to the nearest rest area, so those searchers rarely pay a private operator. Bid instead on township roads, car parks and the onward tow from the rest area to a workshop.
Not new ones. Google removed the option to create call-only ads in February 2026 and existing ones stop receiving impressions in February 2027. Move to responsive search ads with call assets, pointing at a page that states your fee, coverage and truck types.
During the two festive balik kampung seasons and the November to December monsoon. Clicks cost around 40% more in those months, but urgency is highest and the cost per booked job falls to its lowest point of the year.
